History of Neemuch:- Neemuch is a city in the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh state of India. The district shares its northeastern border with the state of Rajasthan and is also the administrative headquarters of Neemuch district. Formerly a large British cantonment of the princely state of Gwalior in 1822, it became the headquarters of the joint Rajputana-Malwa Political Agency and the Malwa Agency in 1895. The British cantonment was disbanded in 1932, after which it was maintained by the British Municipal Board. This city was a palace in Ajmer district. Originally a part of the region of Malwa, it was given to the Rana in 1768 to pay off a debt incurred by the Rana (King) of Mewar. Subsequently it became a British cantonment of the princely state of Gwalior, except for short periods in 1794 and 1844 and 1865. Neemuch Cantonment played an important role in the Indian Rebellion of 1857 and was a major center of unrest in Malwa. In 1857, Neemuch was the most remote place where the rebellion spread.
